On Saturday, Oct 6, was the first round of Districts for 3A High Desert Conference at Sunway Soccer Complex in Twin Falls.  The Lady Trojans took on the Gooding Senators.  The first round is loser out, winner continues to the next round with a possible berth at State.  The Lady Trojans, were pumped up for this game.  Prior to getting off the bus they heard a very motivating speech, cleared their minds and got set for the game.  When these two last meet Wendell lost to Gooding.  Wendell had beaten Gooding early on during conference play.  All the Lady Trojans had to do is Believe not only in themselves but in their team.  Gooding got kick off and the Wendell pressured Gooding.  20 minutes into the first half, Wendell shot at the goal but missed, ball deflected out, Liz Alvarado followed up on the ball and passed the ball to Jenny Diaz who converted and goal scored by Wendell 1-0.  Wendell continued to pressure Gooding.  Wendell moved the ball on each counter attack and had several opportunities on the goal.  Defense kept stopping the Gooding attack.  At half time it was still 1-0.  Wendell knew that Gooding would come out fighting in the second half.  Wendell had kick off in the second half.  Gooding played kick ball with sending balls up in the air.  Wendell played the ball on the ground and passed from side to side to keep Gooding on their toes.  The second half were the longest 40 minutes this team ever played.  But your Lady Trojans kept fighting, because they believed they could come out victorious.  When the final whistle blew, there were tears of joy, excitement and exhaustion.  Wendell left all they had on the field.  Wendell came in as the 6th seed in the tournament and Gooding the 3rd seed.  What a great game to defeat the 3rd seed team and knock them out of the tournament.  Next Wendell travels to Kimberly on 10/8 in the next round, game is at 4:30 pm.  When Wendell and Kimberly meet during conference play Wendell won the first game and Kimberly won the second game.  The team would like to thank everyone that came out on Saturday to cheer them on.
